Mizata, El Salvador – April 22, 2025 – Mizata by Antiresort, an eco-conscious and people-oriented tourism destination, is driven to make an impact through regenerative travel rooted in deep respect for local communities. On World Earth Day 2025, the Mizata community and resort proudly highlights a series of sustainability and community initiatives that demonstrate eco-conscious, people-centric tourism in action. From beach cleanups and upcycling projects to an innovative Dog Campaign for local strays, Mizata is proving that tourism can be a force for positive change for both the environment and the people who call this place home.
“We are driven to make an impact not just on Earth Day, but every day,” said Amalie Ambrosius, Sustainability Lead at Mizata. “Eco-conscious and people-oriented tourism is at the core of everything we do—by respecting and uplifting our local community, we create lasting change for our environment.”
2025 Sustainability Milestones (January–April)
- January 2025: Mizata launched a comprehensive “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Upcycle” campaign to kick off the year. Visiting partners from a Norwegian retreat joined forces with locals to collect ocean plastic waste – and then transformed those plastics into something new. In a creative twist, the retreat produced bikinis made from recycled ocean plastics, turning trash into wearable treasure and inspiring guests and community members to see waste reduction in a whole new light.
- February 2025: A major school restoration project revitalized the local English academy, with hands-on support from the Solti Yoga Retreat group. Volunteers and community members worked side by side to refurbish classrooms – repairing facilities, repainting walls, and even creating a vibrant community mural designed by local students. Interactive workshops were held with the retreat guests and teachers, giving children a chance to learn in fun new ways. The restored school stands not only as an improved learning environment but also as a symbol of hope and investment in Mizata’s youth.
- March 2025: Mizata officially launched its Dog Campaign in partnership with the Salty Retreat, focusing on the welfare of Mizata’s many street dogs. This people-and-pets initiative kicked off a fundraising drive to finance a much-needed street dog sterilization clinic. Plans are now well underway to conduct spay and neuter campaigns, ensuring healthier dogs and a safer, cleaner community. March also saw forward planning for an upcoming turtle conservation campaign – guest expert Kayleigh, a marine biologist, helped blueprint a program to protect sea turtle nests on Mizata’s beaches. Kayleigh will return in October to lead this turtle initiative during nesting season, engaging guests and locals in protecting endangered baby turtles.
- April 2025: In the lead-up to Earth Day, Mizata organized a sweeping community cleanup beginning April 5. In partnership with local firm TOTO and the Salvadoran Navy, residents and volunteers joined to clear litter from beaches, roads, and public spaces. Dozens of new trash bins have been installed throughout the town to curb littering long-term, thanks to this collaborative effort. This cleanup is part of a broader push to improve waste management infrastructure in Mizata – from better trash collection to community education on recycling – ensuring the improvements last well beyond Earth Day.
Empowering Communities for Lasting Change
Mizata’s social and people-centered work is not just altruism – it’s the key to lasting environmental impact. In alignment with the Earth Day 2025 theme, “Planet vs. Plastics,” Mizata recognizes that tackling pollution and climate change starts with empowering people. Investing in local education, community leadership, and consciousness-building is essential to shifting behaviors and achieving meaningful environmental results. By rebuilding the local school and involving youth in sustainability from an early age, Mizata is nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards who will carry the Planet vs. Plastics mission forward. Community cleanups and recycling drives are coupled with workshops on why keeping trash out of the ocean matters. Retreat guests don’t just vacation here – they learn from and work with the community, gaining a deeper understanding of local challenges and becoming ambassadors for change. Mizata’s philosophy is clear: truly regenerative, inclusive sustainability means uplifting people and community as much as protecting the planet. When a village is educated, motivated, and united, lasting environmental change becomes not only possible, but inevitable.

Looking Ahead in 2025
The journey doesn’t end in April. Looking ahead, each month for the rest of 2025 will spotlight a new sustainability theme – focusing in turn on the environment, people, or animals – to ensure a holistic approach that leaves no one and nothing behind. Over the summer, the Mizata team will be hard at work preparing for the upcoming sea turtle conservation campaign. This includes training local “turtle guardians,” readying beach nesting areas, and rallying resources so that when Kayleigh returns in October, the community is prepared to safely protect hundreds of baby turtles as they hatch and make their first voyage to the sea.
In the autumn, Mizata’s commitment to people comes full circle. Plans are underway for programs supporting men’s mental health, creating safe spaces and workshops that address wellness and encourage open dialogue in the community – an often overlooked aspect of sustainable development. Alongside this, an artisan training initiative will launch to help local artisans and entrepreneurs develop sustainable businesses, blending cultural heritage with eco-friendly practices. Mizata will also deepen its engagement with local schools beyond the English academy – introducing environmental education clubs, supporting teachers with sustainability curriculum, and even arranging field trips that connect students with nature and conservation work. Each of these efforts underscores the idea that caring for the planet goes hand in hand with caring for people.
As 2025 progresses, Mizata’s regenerative and inclusive approach to sustainability continues to build momentum. By focusing on planet, people, and animals in equal measure, this small coastal community is creating a ripple effect of positive change. This Earth Day, Mizata stands as a model for how a resort and its neighbors can work together to combat challenges like plastic pollution and climate change. And with a calendar full of purposeful initiatives ahead, Mizata reaffirms that every day can be Earth Day when communities unite to protect what they love.
